This tracker is a novel tool to hold nations accountable for their decisions. Too much of international fisheries management decision-making occurs out of the watchful eye of civil society, market players, or small-scale fishers — we are chipping away at the intentional secrecy put in place by nations acting on behalf of their industrial fishers. For the first time a platform like this will make it clear which nations are standing in the way of meaningful policy improvements.

Most RFMO decisions are made through consensus. This means that any one nation can torpedo a proposal with or without justification. Historically nations have enjoyed anonymity, or at least shared the blame with their fellow member states. If we care about sustainability this practice must end. This tracker is the starting point to holding nations accountable to their citizens and holding RFMOs accountable to us all.
